What will you do if you aren't afraid?
Hello Wonderful people, thank you for checking on me and for patiently anticipating this mail. I really care for you and only want to drop this newsletter weekly. So, in everything you do, remember you will get a newsletter from me on Wednesdays.
What will you do if you aren't afraid? It appears to be a cheap question, is it? yes, we think so.
Because if I am not afraid, I can become the President o, I'm really not to young to run.
The question erupted from the book, Who Moved My Cheese by Dr. Spencer Johnson
Cheese means what makes you happy. It can be your career, work, family, phone, shoe or life generally.
The book narrates the story of 4 characters who struggles to find their cheese. After many days of searching, they found it and get comfortable with it, after that they started consuming it. two of them understood that it won't last forever and they started preparing for eventualities and the remaining two already turned Mario in that location.
Eventually, the cheese finished and they all divided into categories.
A & B - Expecting this day and moved on to starting searching for other Cheese Station
C - After many days of sleeping and waking expecting a miracle, sought to adapt to change and go hunting
D - "Looking into the eyes of God" and still expecting miracle.
This book teaches important life lessons.
Fear of failure was what hold C & D back. They don’t expect to see any cheese anywhere again and they would not want to go out to search, fearing that they’d lose either way. But C later realized that he needs to go hunting, else nothing will happen.
So, we need to know that the fear of failure will diminish the hope of success.
Just like the popular saying that all the good you want is at the other side of fear. You just need to overcome your fear.
In July, I was returning from somewhere in Ikeja late in the night and I was afraid of using the pedestrian bridge, so I crossed the road and was hit by a dispatch rider. I summersaulted like Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and the Shawarma I was taking home joined me. That incident instilled the fear of crossing the road in me again (If you dare laugh at me). In recent time, that's the only fear I'm nursing but I am better now, at least, I cross sometimes, use the bridge sometimes.
“If you do not change, you can become extinct.”
What do you see to that?
I think we shouldn't be too comfortable with whatever situation we find ourselves because change is constant. We just need to learn to change ways sometimes, explore other options sometimes and take swift actions to better ourselves, else, what happened to the dinosaurs can repeat itself.
In conclusion, the book is enlightening us to learn to take control of our lives, change when there's a need to; not be weighed down by failures or setbacks; develop positive attitude to life and struggles.
Ultimately, don't restrict your happiness to cheese. Don't attach your happiness to anything.
